The other two symptoms are related to the slow healing of an infection. It is fairly common to have simple cuts and bruises on your skin, and they normally heal fast. However if you have a high blood sugar, they will be slow to heal. This includes unexplainable skin rashes that most people ignore. If you have skin rashes, usually on the knees, elbows, upper arms, or sides of your body, this is a sign that your blood sugar level is too high.

I have just been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I have only a few symptoms, blurred vision, frequent urination, decreased sex drive, overweight and fatigue.

I do not have frequent thirst and do not loose weight. Dr. put me on Metoformin 500 mg.; waiting to see if this works. I am nervous to start another pill.

I spent 12 years under the diagnosis of “pre-diabetes”. Doc started me at 500 mg Metformin and upped it to 1500mg per day by the time I was at my highest weight ever. He only medicated, never tried to reverse the downward slope to diabetes. I started eating low carb/low sugar and counting calories. Added exercise after dropping 30lbs in the first three months. The Metformin started to make me ill with my new diet so I just stopped taking it. After a year of diet & exercise (and not taking the Metformin), an independent blood test said I was no longer “pre-diabetic”.

Not to say the doctor is wrong for prescribing Metformin, but it didn’t FIX the problem, it only treated the insulin/glucose imbalance and the cause was still there regardless of taking the medication or not. Now, I’m healthy. I eat natural, whole foods, and I work out at least 3 times each week. I’m still working on reaching my goal weight because I had packed on 50lbs while on Metformin and it’s going to take a while to reverse over a decade of bad nutrition and a messed up metabolism but I feel better and more in control of taking my life back on my own terms.

I should also add….the only symptoms I had were that I was tired all the time. Doctor ran a blood test to determine I had pre-diabetes or what he called insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.
